The new Nightingale
Born in Casablanca, it was not long before this young man was noticed by the world-celebrated Cairo Opera House. It was there that his artistic integrity was developed.
Earning the nickname, the « New Nightingale » in deference to his mentor Abdelhalim Hafez the « Brown Nightingale », Abdou Cherif is perceived by the public, the arts community in the Arab world and the Arab community worldwide as the best performer of Abdelhalim’s musical repertoire. Abdou Cherif is faithfully committed to ensure the perpetuity of the golden age of classical Arabic music.
Modern Arab singing stars are all inspired by Abdelhalim Hafez. Many have tried in vain to imitate, to compete or even to impose their styles to his musical repertoire. Only Abdou Cherif has a special ability to interpret Abdelhalim’s exceptional songs. Reviving the Arab crooner, Abdou Cherif takes on Abdelhalim’s intensity, diversity and especially disconcerting simplicity. A pure voice, which rings through the night.
Legend of the Cairo Opera House, he made himself famous, elevating his audience to an euphoric nostalgia. Interpreting classical Arab music, traditional songs of Maghreb (Malhoune, Salim Halali, Sami el Maghreby…) and French popular songs (Charles Aznavour, Enrico Macias, Jacques Brel…) requires both passion and technicality. No other living musician is better able to accomplish this grand feat than Abdou Cherif — a nightingale in his own right.
On stage, Abdou Cherif gives birth to a brilliant chemistry, as he transports you to a special time in our collective memory.
